Of Mumbrellas and Nest-overs - Eagleholics talk

The past few months I've been watching (and participating with) a number of people new to the world of interactive Internet. I'm sure many of them have been reading things and getting e-mail for some time now, however some are only just starting to discover the concept of interaction with people they've never met through chat and forum postings.
Others are learning that they too can morph what they see into something that contains their peculiar style - taking screen shots and video pieces and adding comments and edits.
Along the way they've invented some descriptive words for their favourite pastime - watching eagles nesting and growing up.
At some point someone is going to have to do a sociology paper on the phenomenum that brought all these tens of thousands of people together. The streaming video, 24 hours/day, of a simple view of the nesting eagles of Hornby island caught the world by surprise. Is this TV? Is it art? Is it recreation? Is it wierd or what?
I have my thoughts, having watched the Internet revolution from deep within the world of bits and bytes.
